SITUATION :

Eygalières is a beautiful, peaceful little village just 5 minutes from Saint Rémy de Provence, surrounded by the stunning Alpilles landscapes, huge fields of pretty olive trees, green valleys and vines.

The setting is simply astounding and one of the most picturesque in Provence. Eygalières is set on the top of a small hill in the heart of the Alpilles. Many of the beautiful old Provencal farmhouses in the village have been perfectly restored whilst keeping their original historical charm. Arriving in Eygalieres is truly spectacular, from afar you will be able to see the village and as you get closer the beautiful houses facing the breathtaking panorama that surrounds the village… a visit not to be missed.

You will discover a village full of charm, a village that has preserved its authenticity and historical charm. The old houses in the village are made of stone and there are many stunning hidden gardens behind big wrought iron gates. The villages main street slopes up to the original old village… take the Rue de l’Eglise and you will get to the Castle, the old Donjon’s esplanade and the Saint-Laurent church. You can also visit the local history museum, which is in the Chapel of the Penitents (XVIIth century). There are a number of prehistoric objects as well as a collection of old tools formerly used by local farmers. From the village you will have a truly breathtaking view of the Caume mountains, the Alpilles and the Durance. Utterly spectacular !
The view from the little Calade path which runs alongside the chapel is stunning.

A delightful bike ride on the small D24 road from Eygalières will take you through the beautiful Alpilles. If you follow directions to Aureille, you will cycle past the pretty Pas de Figuières, 247 m in altitude. Enjoy the delicious scent of the pine trees and wild aromatic plants whilst being lulled by the sound of the cicadas singing in the background.

Visits :
Chapelle Saint-Sixte (XIIth century) and it’s little Ermitage (1km to the East of the village) - Chapelle des Pénitents (XVIIth century) – Local history museum – Parish Church.

Sports & Leisure :
Hiking (on the GR6), horse riding, tennis, golf, air sports, pretty walks, mountain biking. The Alpilles is the ideal spot for mountain biking.
Nearby golf courses (Mouriès, Les Baux, Avignon). Not far from Avignon (20 minutes), Gordes (40 minutes). Aix-en-Provence and Marseille are just 45 minutes away by motorway..
