ACTIVITIES & LEISURE :

Isle sur la Sorgue and the exceptional Fontaine de Vaucluse are must-sees in Provence.  Renowned for its antique and brocante boutiques and fairs, Isle sur la Sorgue is an absolutely stunning village on the riverbanks of the Sorgues river. 
Isle sur la Sorgue is a charming little town located in the Vaucluse region of Provence.  The Sorgues river flows down from the stunning Fontaine de Vaucluse.  You will be able to admire the "Venise du Comtat" waterwheels whilst walking through the pretty streets and by the rivers and canals.  The waterwheels are now simply decorative but it’s absolutely fascinating to watch the heavy mossy blades turn.  They turn slowly but surely, the beautifully  clear river water glistening under the hot Provencal sun.

The old town, once surrounded by ramparts, has kept its charm from past eras.  The buildings in the town and the fantastic historical heritage bear witness to its rich past. 

L'Isle sur la Sorgue is a quiet little town, where you will be able to enjoy meandering around the pretty streets, lulled by the sound of the Sorgues river passing by, or enjoying a glass of local chilled wine or a fresh local fruit juice on a pretty terrace in a local café whilst watching the waterwheels turn. 

The town is bustling and animated during the weekly Sunday markets and the many antique fairs that attract amateurs from all over the world.

The floating market is a must-see in Isle sur la Sorgue. On the first Sunday of August, boatmen sell a selection of delicious local produce on the river.  This is definitely worth a visit.

As well as the big antique fairs, many second-hand and antique dealers have set up shop in Isle sur la Sorgue.  It is now the third European antique trade centre after London and Paris. 

There is also a large selection of decor boutiques and art galleries, something for everyone.
